It’s so easy to take for granted those whom we love, but we thought we might lose little Fawn recently when two vets told us that the irregular tissue we had noticed in her left eye was likely a tumor, and possibly even brain cancer. We were so scared for her. When the biopsy results came back, it turned out that the tissue proliferation wasn’t caused by cancer (thank goodness) but was actually an auto immune disease.

The treatments she has been prescribed are working, and the growth is receding, but it’s likely she will need to be on these medications long-term, and possibly even for the rest of her life. Her vet bills have been over a thousand dollars so far, and will keep growing with her monthly prescriptions.

Fawn was found at the pound when Kares Hawaii asked to rescue the next dog in line for a lethal injection. Not having any success at adoption events, she lived at the shelter until we gave her a chance to become a Gentle Worlder. She’s brought a ton of love and good vibes to our center and the folks who visit, and she’s even a vegan ambassador! Even the vets can tell that she’s a special girl.

If anyone feels moved to give toward her care, donations are welcome. As always, we thank all our readers and contributors for their help and support.
