Vegan eBook: Demystifying Veganism with 20 Simple Questions
Vegan publishing has been a part of Gentle World’s history since our organization was incorporated in 1981. Long before most people knew what the word vegan meant, Gentle World created the first full-length vegan cookbook in the United States: The Cookbook for People Who Love Animals. In the 40 years since, this groundbreaking publication has sold nearly 100,000 copies, and continues to sell in its eighth edition. In the year 2000, we produced Incredibly Delicious: Recipes for a New Paradigm.
Over the past two decades, however, our attention has been more focused on the vegan education we carry out at our two centers, and the development of our website and online presence.
Thankfully, however, a grant we received toward the end of 2020 allowed us to put some resources toward some major projects that have been on our priority list for far too long, starting with the rebuild of our website, and the launch of our first ever vegan eBook, now available as a free download, right here in our online store.
Why a Vegan eBook?
Making the vegan transition has never been easier than it is today.
Nevertheless, there’s still a lot of confusion around what veganism really means. Over the many years of developing this website, we’ve had the chance to address many of the questions we hear most commonly as long-time vegans and vegan educators, and now we’re excited to share that we’ve put them all together in one place, free to download for our readers.
For those who are new to veganism, we hope you will find Demystifying Veganism to be a helpful and informative guide. We also hope it will serve as a valuable resource for those who are new to vegan advocacy, as well as those who have heard these questions (and more) dozens of times themselves:
If the whole world became vegan, what would happen to all the animals already on farms? Wouldn’t they overrun the planet?
Other animals prey on one another, so why shouldn’t we? It’s a part of natural life.
What about the plants you kill or harm by eating vegan?
Why should I care so much about animal suffering when there are so many other important issues to focus my attention on?
What do I do with all the items I already own that are made from leather, wool, silk, etc.?
Throughout our history, Gentle World has been an unwavering voice for veganism, inspiring people from all over the world and from all walks of life to embrace vegan living as the way forward into a more peaceful, healthy, and prosperous future. Now in our fifth decade of providing vegan education, we continue to offer a perspective that is both original and compelling.
By sharing the insights we’ve gained over our many years of advocating for a vegan world, we hope the Gentle World Vegan FAQ will help readers come to a clear understanding of what veganism is all about, so they can feel empowered about making the transition.
