World Vegan Day is an annual event celebrated on November 1st , by vegans around the world. Coincidentally, I happened to arrive home in Melbourne just in time for an ever expanding event held at the Melbourne show grounds.
This free event welcomed anyone and everyone to come and explore what it means to live a vegan lifestyle. With live music, guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, and even a fashion show, not to mention delicious food and drink stalls from local vegan cafes and restaurants, all aspects of this event pleasantly surprised me.
And to say the food was delicious would be an understatement! Everything from gourmet vegan pies, crepes, and dumplings, to sweet ice cream, chocolates, cakes and candies.
The event was buzzing with a friendly vibe. Guest speakers profoundly touched all our hearts with powerful speeches on what it means to be vegan with inspiration to make the right choices.
Coming home to such a wonderful event made me realize how widespread veganism is becoming, and I was honored to give my time to take photos and to be surrounded by so many like minded people.
One quest speaker that I was extremely excited to see was Philip Wollen. His 30 minute speech began:
“If you want to serve your age, betray it. Expose its lies, humiliate its conceit, debunk its arrogance, expose its secrets and condemn them to reveal its harsher truths.”
The room was silent, captivated by every word, and tears streamed down the faces of some as they learned the horrific facts of animal cruelty.
Philip went on to powerfully describe veganism as the swiss army knife of the future:
“One instrument solves our ethical, environmental, economic, water and health problems and ends animal cruelty forever.”
